FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Businesses which Venture Downtown all want in on an area they believe will enjoy steady growth. The former co-owner of Cross-Fit Fresno has moved into a small space with big potential.

Spring has spurred new growth among shade trees as well as the business scene in Downtown Fresno. Former Fresno State hurdler Jon Akers jumped at the chance to move in. He just opened Cross Fit Iron Buffalo in the Iron Bird Lofts.

"I heard Downtown Fresno had been growing but not until last year when I had a friend who lived in this neighborhood did I realize how much it's changed and how neat this neighborhood is," said Akers.

The gym is equipped with the cross fit basics like weights and kettle bells-- even rings.

Every business which moves in Downtown is celebrated by the city because it becomes another missing piece to the puzzle.

"I actually underestimated how much people in this area are hungry for a gym. The response I've been getting is overwhelming," said Akers.

Right now Akers has morning and evening classes but will add more as people-- especially beginners-- sign up.

The changes he has seen Downtown inspired him to open the gym. It's a small space, just 1,340 square feet, but Akers said it's a good place to have fun with your friends while getting into shape.
