FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Kids at a Fresno elementary school are getting a little guidance from some students they can really look up to.

Students from UC Merced made the trip to Yokomi Elementary School to offer some valuable lessons to the younger kids. The goal is to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and math known as STEM subjects and possibly give children some early ideas about what kinds of careers they might want to pursue.

"We're a science and technology magnet school so it really fits in with our curriculum and our focus," principal Bruce Thele said. "It's important for these kids to get a vision of a career or what college may offer in terms of these fields which are the fields that we need a lot of students in and UC Merced has them."

The visit included several outdoor demonstrations for more than 100 students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades.
