Selma residents celebrate Sikh New Year
It started at the temple on Highland Avenue and included a walk through the city before returning to the temple.

FRESNO, Calif. -- A huge crowd gathered in Selma Sunday to mark the beginning of the Sikh New Year.

The celebration brought out thousands of Sikhs and other community members. It started at the temple on Highland Avenue and included a walk through the city before returning to the temple.

Organizers say it's similar to a parade but has a religious and sacred meaning to it.

This is just one of many other Sikh parades held all over the world.

It's the 22nd year the ceremony has been held in Selma.
