FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hundreds of kids at Valley Children's hospital got a special surprise Friday.

The Tarkanian family delivered toys and stuffed animals to patients there today as part of the Tark Toy Drive. This is the first year the non-profit has collected for the hospital.

Amy Tarkanian says the drive came about after her son was treated at Valley Children's hospital last year with an ischemic stroke.

"When my son was in the hospital, it was really scary for him, that when it was test time the only thing would help was holding on to a stuffed animal and you could feel the fear melt," Tarkanian said.

The Tark Toy Drive collected 500 stuffed toys for kids.

It will also collect toys at Fresno Grizzlies games later this season.
