Bookstore robbed near Fresno State
The employee did not think the man, who came in roaming the store just before noon like a normal customer, was actually going to hold her up at the cash register with a silver plated handgun.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police are looking for the person who robbed a bookstore right across the street from Fresno State Monday.

"I didn't hear anything. The guy was quiet, my employee was quiet," manager of Bulldog Fan Zone @ Sequoia Textbooks, Misty Bassham said.

Bassham did not think the man, who came in roaming the store just before noon like a normal customer, was actually going to hold the cashier up at the register with a silver-plated handgun.

"He showed her a firearm," Bassham explained. "She was asked to give him the money and, from my understanding from her, she said 'I can't do that.'"

So, the man left with a hat and a bag totaling at about $50.

"Less than he came in for that's for sure," Bassham said.

Bulldog Fan Zone @ Sequoia Textbooks says it has been the target of thieves before. A year-and-half ago burglars busted the front door of the store on a Tuesday just before 2 a.m.

Thieves took off with sweatshirts and a few jerseys priced at around $100 each.

This is the first time though a theft happened while the store was open for business, and Bassham is hoping their advanced camera system that's better than the old one will lead police to the most recent suspect.

"We have a brand new system," she explained. "It's a couple months old but an update came in handy today."

Until he's caught, Bassham says she will praise her employee who stood up for the store as if it was her own.

"It's not something I would instruct her to do but I would hope I would so the same thing," she said.
