FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Mountain, street, hand, or hybrid hundreds of bikes kicked into gear for the 15th annual Mall 2 Mall.

"Whether you're 5 or 55 anyone can ride. Whether its a two wheel, three wheels or four wheeled bike," said Matthew Brooks, cyclist.

Escorted by Fresno police, avid cyclists and enthusiasts alike pedaled Blackstone from Manchester Center to Mariposa Mall to celebrate National Bike Month-- now recognized by the cities of Clovis and Fresno.

"To share with our community all of the benefits cycling offers, as far as public health, air quality, reducing congestion, reducing obesity, and diabetes," said Tony Molina, Fresno County Bicycle Coalition Vice Chair.

Also reminding cyclists to practice safety.

"We teach the five layers of safety to cyclists so they can increase their chances of being safe on the road," said Molina.

Bike control, following the rules of the road, positioning in the roadway, hazard avoidance, and wearing protective gear.

Riding in style, cyclist Laura Moore is comfortable leading the pack.

"I do all kinds of rides. From long distance to rides around town."

Moore is a member of several cycling clubs in Fresno introducing her to new friends and a new hometown.

"You see the city from a different view than when you're in a car or walking. And I've learned things about Fresno that I didn't know before I had my bike," said Moore.

If you missed Wednesday's festivities, no worries you still have another chance. National Bike to Work day is May 20th.
