FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- It's the start of a new game at new business Detention Billiards in Fresno's Tower District. Inside, the pool club is taking shape.

"If you had the best detention on earth, you'd have a full bar and pool tables and that's what we've created here," said Tim Ferrigan.

Ferrigan is the owner of Detention Club, which has taken over the old Blockbuster. He hopes blues music and great pool will set the stage for a new experience in the Valley.

"It's creating a new buzz. We're going to be introducing handmade craft cocktails to the Tower, and local craft beers. The pool tables are from the old club, but they've been completely rebuilt-- all new felt and cushion."

Ferrigan formerly owned Pool Club Babylon down the street, which was damaged by flooding caused by copper wire thieves in 2012. Now, four years later, he's excited about this new opportunity. Ferrigan also plans to follow a cab bar concept. Rewarding people with an hour of pool time for using a cab service.

Tower advocates say more ideas are on the way.

"It's kind of entrepreneurs central. So one thing we tout is when one business goes out, we have four or five standing in line because people want to try new things," said Bill Kuebler, Tower District Committee Marketing Director.

Kuebler said the new Fab Night Club is doing well and Mia Cuppa plans to open a performance space. Also restaurant Bobby's is expanding.

"So he's expanding, and that area should be open in the next 30 days. So he'll have bigger dining space, a horseshoe shaped bar, a larger patio, and bigger bathrooms," said Kuebler.

Additionally, Landmark has new owners and they are currently remodeling the restaurant with a new theme.

Detention Billiards is expected to open to those 21 and up by the end of the month, adding one more entertainment venue to the Tower.
