Fresno City Badminton on verge of state title

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Carol Kadingo originally came to Fresno City College in the mid 1980's to coach women's basketball and did so until 1992. After stepping away from sidelines, she took on the badminton program in 2000.

"My first thoughts were oh my gosh I don't know anything about Badminton to be really really honest with you," said Kadingo.

The only coach in school history, Kadingo and her Rams program has come a long way since then

"Always had a competitive team, always every year. We went to the State Championship only once in 2007 and unfortunately we lost to San Diego City College,19-2," she said.

The 2016 team has a chance to win the first state badminton title in school history when they travel to Pasadena City College on Thursday.

"We never even had the conference final in 10 years and so it would mean a lot for the coaches and everybody on the team," said Rams badminton player Lucy Lor.

"It's a lifetime sport you can play it at all kinds of ages, you don't have to be young. Similar to tennis, golf and those kinds of sports. If it gets in your blood, you're done, you're hooked," said Kadingo.

Hooked with a chance at history this week.
