FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The 25th Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Day is part of National Police Week which started Friday with the annual candlelight vigil on the National Mall. The week honors officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

This year, the names of 252 fallen officers are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall, including 137 officers who died in 2015.

Fresno's John Herring was one of ten officers, plus two canines from California added to the memorial wall. His sister said about 50 people paid tribute to him -- including Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Herring was just 44-years-old when he died of a heart attack in July 2014 -- the day after he helped catch an armed suspect.
