FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- It's a battle of #1 versus #2 in Division 1 boys tennis, top seed Clovis North takes #2 seed and defending champion Clovis West...
"Playing against the rival team, we've played them twice this year beat them for the first time last year our team has performed well this year against them," said Clovis North tennis player Daly Meinert.
Clovis West is no stranger to the big stage in boys tennis. They are a traditional power year after year
and are the defending D-1 champions.
"Out of the past 7 years, we've won 6 times, so we are definitely the team to beat in the valley and have been. We are used to that and we like that, we like other teams coming after us and trying to take it to us," said Clovis West tennis player Addison Weil.
Meanwhile here at Clovis North, the Broncos are competing in the Division 1 title and feel this is the start of something big for their program.
"It's usually Clovis West that we have to get through and once that first match, once we accomplished that we knew maybe the tide was shifting a little bit," said Broncos Head Coach Brad Fernandez.
"I think we've always been underrated as a tennis team, I think it's a great way to start becoming a tennis giant," said Meinert.
"We have a lot of history here at Clovis West, especially our tennis program we sent our two seniors out on top last year, said Weil. "We want to follow in their footsteps and end with a valley championship."
The Golden Eagles and Broncos will play at Copper River Country Club Wednesday May 17th.
