Judge makes ruling in Hmong New Year hosting controversy

A battle over one of the Central Valley's most colorful cultural celebrations has been settled after six years of legal haggling.

A judge has ruled Hmong International New Year Foundation can continue to host its annual event at the Fresno Fairgrounds.

In 2010, another faction of Hmong citizens, the United Hmong Council, claimed they had the right to host new year festivities, saying the celebration at the fairgrounds is in the hands of the wrong organizer.

In 2011, the UHC began holding its own, much smaller, new year event at the Jensen Sports Complex.
