Visalia police investigating officer involved shooting

VISALIA POLICE INVESTIGATING OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
The shooting happened late Thursday afternoon at North-East second Avenue and Grape Street.

VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Visalia police are investigating an officer involved shooting. It happened late Thursday afternoon at North-East second Avenue and Grape Street.

According to police, they received a call about an armed gang member was on a bike in the area of Houston and Court. When an officer attempted to make contact with him the suspect, 28-year-old Eliseo Jose Briseno, he tried to escape on a bike towards a home on the 300 block of North East 2nd street.

Briseno left the bike in the backyard of the residence and attempted to escape on foot. When officers caught up to Briseno he pulled something from his waist band and charged the officers who then fired at him.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.

A holster and loaded handgun were recovered at the scene.

Tulare County Sheriff's Officer is currently handling the investigation into the shooting.
