SAN JOSE -- It was total chaos at the South Bay rally for Donald Trump. Everything was peaceful until Trump supporters exited the San Jose Convention Center, then eggs were thrown, people were attacked and an officer was assaulted.

San Jose's police chief tweeted out Thursday that he was going to protect the First Amendment, the community and his officers during the Trump rally, but many Trump supporters say he forgot about them.

It didn't matter who you were - man woman, or even the elderly - the protesters Thursday night were on the attack.

There was video from Instagram of a woman being punched by a protester and she wasn't the only one.

Others also had things thrown at them and were harassed.

All this happened as San Jose police just watched.

"They grabbed my Trump sign and started ballin' me, saying I was a racist," Trump supporter Andrew Zambetti said. "I didn't think anyone would actually hit me but they were like spitting on me and stuff."

Sky7HD was above as San Jose police attempted to surround a large number of protesters.

Officers announced by helicopter to disperse, calling it an unlawful assembly.

San Jose police say they made a few arrests but didn't have specifics.

They also say there was no significant property damage reported.

One officer was assaulted.

San Jose police say they'll release more details on Friday.
