Arrest made for murder of Fresno mother

FRESNO, Calif. -- Police have arrested a man in connection to the shooting death of a mother in Central Fresno.

Police believe 27-year-old Abel Echartea was involved in the shooting that left Angelita Mendez dead in front of her two children.

Action News was there when he was taken into custody.

Police tracked down Echartea after several months of investigation.

The shooting happened back in April near Abby Avenue and Highway 180.

Police say Mendez was riding in a car with her boyfriend and two kids when someone shot at the car and hit her.

Her boyfriend drove a couple of blocks and flagged down help.

By the time police arrived Mendez was dead.
