Broken Fire
The flames broke out just before noon on Monday near Highway 41 and Veater Ranch Road -- about three miles north of Coarsegold.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crews are utilizing air and ground crews to fight a large wildfire burning near Highway 41 and Veater Ranch Road. Crews are working to stop the fire before it hits an area with a lot of dead trees near Thornberry Mountain.

Fire officials initially said 100 acres had burned -- but have since revised their number to about 50 to 75 acres. The spread of the fire has been stopped, but crews are still working to mop up the area.

Fire officials say the property owner had spent years developing a defensible space that ultimately stopped the fire and prevented further damage.
