Fresno animal shelter sees large increase in animals, hoping to find homes for pets
The Central California SPCA said this past holiday weekend they took in 243 lost animals.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local animal shelter is trying to clear their shelter this weekend after becoming overwhelmed with lost animals from the 4th of July.

The Central California SPCA said this past holiday weekend they took in 243 lost animals.

The shelter is working to reunite those animals with their families and find them good homes so they're holding a weekend-long special. Dog adoption rates are 50 percent off through Sunday.

"It is a lot of animals, it's a 60 percent increase from last year," Thalia Arenas with the CCSPCA said.

Arenas said holidays like the 4th of July emphasise the importance of microchipping your pet.

Through Sunday, the CCSPCA is offering a $5 micro-chipping special in addition to discounted adoption rates.
