CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two local movie theaters are hoping to offer alcoholic beverages soon along with the latest box office hits.

The permit application signs are up in the window at Regal Cinemas at Manchester and the Sierra Vista Cinemas in Clovis. Now, they are undergoing the several step process with the alcoholic beverage control board.

"We want to be sure they are putting forth a business in the community that is a positive thing for the community, and that's going to help our community and be safe for our community," said Jason Montgomery, Department of Alcoholic Beverages.

The permit would come with restrictions like beers could not be more than 16 ounces. One person would be limited to two drinks at a time and would have to buy them from the snack bar or a waiter-- if one is made available.

So far some moviegoers said they are all for the added feature.

"I think it would be good. I don't think what everyone else thinks but that's my opinion," said John Williams, Clovis resident.

Hazel Gay Lee went to a movie theater in Southern California that had alcohol along with a wide array of food. She feels, the more options, the better.

"I think it's wonderful. I would have said no at one time, and I'm not even a drinker. But, I was down at my daughter's house and she lives in Irvine and we went to a movie theater I went to I was so impressed. It was so cool."

As part of the permit process neighbors, schools, and churches within 500 feet of the theaters are being notified of the application.

ABC officials will also be checking with law enforcement to see if they have any concerns at these locations.

The only other local theater serving alcoholic beverages is the Galaxy Theater in Tulare.

If approved, the Sierra Vista and Manchester Center locations could be serving up a cold beer or glass of wine in the next few months.
