FRESNO, California -- Police are looking for the gunman in a drive-by shooting overnight in downtown Fresno.

It started as a call from the department's gunshot detection system just after midnight. Investigators say someone inside a green mini-van fired eight shots near Fresno and E Street. A 59-year old man was hit in the leg.

Investigators say at this point there's not a lot of evidence to work with.

"But we have a lot more work to do before we really determine what the motive was here , if in fact we ever can. But, it wasn't obviously gang related and it doesn't appear that there was any relationship between the victim and the suspects. But again, it's super early in the investigation so we have a lot more talking to people to do," said Lt. Mindy Casto, Fresno Police Department.

Investigators are still trying to figure out if the victim was targeted or was shot at random. They say the green mini-van immediately jumped onto Highway 99 after the shooting and took off northbound.

The victim is expected to be okay.
