Man seriously hurt after being ejected from car in Visalia crash
Authorities say the man was driving in the eastbound lane when he lost control of his vehicle, veered down the embankment, and landed on the frontage road below.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is recovering Friday after being ejected from his car during a rollover crash on Highway 198.

The single-vehicle crash happened late in the morning on the east side of Visalia.

The California Highway Patrol says a man was driving in the eastbound lane when he lost control of his vehicle, veered down the embankment, and landed on the frontage road below.

He was then ejected onto the road.

The CHP say witnesses and passersby helped push his car off the road in order to prevent another accident.

"Also we have witnesses that are advising us that he was in excess of, in their opinion, 100 miles an hour," Tony Beltran with the CHP said. "So, combined with his speed and not being belted, causing him to roll over and get ejected."

Officers believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash but say they are still investigating that possibility.

The man was conscious when the ambulance picked him up but he suffered severe head injuries.
