Police said the 20-year-old victim was shot in the face less than a mile away near Maple and Hamilton but drove himself down the street before coming to a stop.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police are investigating an overnight shooting in southeast Fresno that left one man hurt.

It happened shortly before 11 p.m. Friday night.

Police were called out to the intersection of Kings Canyon and Maple Avenues, where they found an unoccupied car.

They said the 20-year-old victim was shot in the face less than a mile away near Maple and Hamilton but drove himself down the street before coming to a stop.

Police are still looking for the suspect.

"At this time, all we have to go on is it was a light colored sedan occupied by one black male adult with dreadlocks," Lt. Rob Beckwith with the Fresno Police Department said. "We don't have any further description and the suspect was last seen westbound on Hamilton."

Authorities said a passerby stopped to help the victim and took him to Community Regional Medical Center.

They said a handgun was found in the car but it's not known if that played a role in the shooting.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time but police said he is expected to survive.
