FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police are looking for the gunman who shot a man outside a gas station.

Officers were called to Belmont Avenue and First Street around 11:30 Wednesday night were they found a man shot several times. He was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in serious condition. Officers expect him to survive.

Detectives say two cars left the scene. One of them was a Mercedes, which officers found several blocks away, but the driver ran off. It's unknown if the car was involved in the shooting, but detectives say it's very possible.

Officers have been searching the neighborhood for the shooter, but they believe they may have found a crucial piece of evidence.

"There was a firearm that was recovered, that was by the white Mercedes. But again, there's a lot of follow-up that needs to be done to make the correlation between the weapon used and the weapon that was recovered," said Lt. Dave Madrigal, Fresno Police Department.

Detectives aren't sure if there were multiple gunmen or just the one. They are now interviewing witnesses and looking at surveillance video from the gas station for more details.
