Mayoral candidates forum held to see where they stand on Fresno's parks
Fresno Councilmember Lee Brand and Fresno Supervisor Henry Perea both expressed their support for more and better green space.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Some Fresno community leaders and neighborhood advocates want to know where Fresno's next mayor stands on more and better parks in the city. So they asked them at a candidates forum Tuesday night.

Fresno Councilmember Lee Brand and Fresno Supervisor Henry Perea both expressed their support for more and better green space. Brand said the city needs to find more funding sources for parks and Perea mentioned spending some of the newly allocated cap and trade funding on parks.

No matter what part of town parks seems to be a priority for Fresnans.

"In fact, 50-percent of the people polled believe that more recreational opportunities should be created for young people as a crime reduction measure. And so if we're really interested in improving our city overall, we have to begin with parks," said Sandra Celedon, Hub Manager for Fresno Building Healthy Communities.

More than 150 people attended Tuesday night's forum hosted by Fresno Building Healthy Families.

The two mayoral candidates have one more debate this week Wednesday night at the Warnors Theatre.
