FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Family and friends said goodbye Friday to a local wife and mother, a part of the ABC30 family, who lost a long battle with cancer.

Hundreds attended a memorial service in Northeast Fresno for Karyn Jakobs. We first told you about Karyn over a year ago, as family and friends were raising money to send her to a clinic in Mexico to undergo stem cell treatment.

Karyn lost her battle with thyroid cancer last week. She is survived by her five children and her husband Jim, who is the Assistant News Director at ABC30.

"Karyn's spirit touched me like no other," Lisa Benham with Fresno County Pink Heals said. "She had this incredible fight, and I think it was because of her five children and Jim that kept that fight going and I think what that does for people it that it gives others hope that they can beat this horrific disease or any other disease that they're battling or any struggle."

At the service, Jim thanked the Fresno and Clovis communities for their support throughout this very difficult time.
