Employees kicked off China Peak's annual job fair

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- The rain outside only brought more excitement to China peak Ski Resort's job fair at Sierra Vista Mall.

"I just love snowboarding and I'm looking for a little extra cash and a change of environment," said Nick Hogue, applicant.

Hogue was among the dozens that turned out to apply for the chance to work and recreate on the mountain.

China peak has 300 positions it's looking to fill to help run the resort. Pay starts at minimum wage and goes up.

"The largest department we hire for is lift operations. We have hired 80 for that operation. We have ski instructors, snowboard instructors, groomers, snowmakers, we have patrollers, we have people who handle all of our facilities," said Tim Cohee, China Peak Owner.

Cohee said there are also numerous indoor positions and hours vary from those who just want to work weekends to part time.

"There's almost endless opportunity and all we ask is the attitude be one that wants to service people. You don't have to have a lot of experience."

According to Cohee, China Peak Resort had a great season last year after four years of drought. They are hoping to bring that momentum into this next season.

"Even though it's very early it's going to get cold here very fast and we may get some snow here on Halloween day so we are optimistic about the weather."

In an ideal world, Cohee would like to be opening Thanksgiving weekend but said Christmas time is the most crucial time of year.

As for the potential applicants, they are hoping to land a job and experience a winter season filled with fresh powder and new faces.

The China Peak job fair resumes on Saturday and the resort will have another hiring fair November 5th.

Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
