VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Friday a Visalia veteran was honored for his service with a ceremony at his home-- which now has a new and improved look.

Former Marine Miguel Salgado was the sixth recipient of Paint it Forward for Heroes.

The 33-year-old Ivanhoe native joined the military after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2011, and served in Iraq and Italy. He said his sister-in-law nominated him for the Paint it Forward project.

Each year, the Visalia-based non-profit gives a Valley veteran a complete exterior home makeover, including a paint job from A-Plus Custom Painting.

"Every day you come back from work and something different happened to the house," Salgado said. "And you know the transformation of it from what it was to what it is now, it's just so much, (I'm) very grateful."

Salgado says he plans to volunteer for next year's project, to continue painting it forward.
