Firefighters with the Fresno and Clovis Fire Departments received some valuable training Monday on what to do in the event of an "active shooter" incident.

Crews simulated a workplace shooting with people laying face down in a hallway pretending to be shot. First responders said in the wake of several recent shootings, they've come up with ways to treat patients quickly and efficiently.

"We've changed the platform on how we respond," said Capt. Chris Coates with Costa Mesa Fire. "So, fire and law are now coordinating, collaborating and coming in to treat victims and get the victims extracted in a timely manner."

This year marks the 21st year that firefighters throughout the state have been coming to the valley to train and exchange ideas and solutions for the ongoing challenges facing today's first responders.
