Suspect in critical condition after deputy involved in a shooting near Minkler
The Sheriff's Office said the man shot by a deputy Thursday morning after running from a parole agent near Minkler was first confronted at a mobile home Park.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said a deputy is involved in a shooting on Highway 180 near Piedra Road in Fresno County.

The Sheriff's Office said the man shot by the deputy Thursday morning ran from a parole agent near Minkler-- was first confronted at Riverbend Mobile Home Park for violating his probation. They said he was a wanted parolee, and has a long criminal history.

The parole agent then called the Sheriff's Office for help, and warned them he believed he was armed.

"He began to run south through a vineyard toward a home, our deputy obviously did not want him getting close to a residence so he was able to cut him off and force him back northbound toward 180," said Tony Botti, Fresno County Sheriff's PIO.

Highway 180 is closed between Reed Avenue and Piedra Road.

The Sheriff's Office said it was around 8:15 Thursday morning when a deputy ordered the suspect to surrender.

"He made some sort of threatening motion toward our deputy which caused him to fire his rifle multiple times striking the suspect," said Botti.

A woman driving by happened to get cell phone video and told us she saw the suspect on the ground after it happened.

"The suspect went down, our deputies jumped into action to give him medical aid calling ambulances and even a skylife helicopter," said Botti.

A neighbor who lives close by said it is usually a quiet neighborhood, and did not hear any commotion.

"All he had to do was quit running, put his hands up," said Terry Miller, resident.

The Sheriff's Office describes the man as a white male in his early 20's.
