FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two men are in custody Sunday after they rammed their ATV in Fresno County Sheriff's vehicle.

It happened around 6 p.m. in the area of Academy and Shields Avenues.

A deputy first tried to pull the men over for not wearing helmets when they took off.

After getting stuck a little ways down the road, the deputy confronted them at gunpoint. That's when they hopped back on the ATV and crashed into the officer's car before trying to run away on foot.

One of the suspects was caught immediately while the other was caught hiding in nearby chicken coops.

"The subject is known to the sheriff's office," Lt. Ronald Hayes with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said. "He's been involved in other thefts of quads in the area and also several pursuits, so, at this point, we have HEAT detectives interviewing the subject and the quad he was on was actually stolen so we're going to follow up on that."

The men are facing several charges including assault with a deadly weapon.
