2 people killed in hit-and-run in Calwa identified

CALWA, Calif. (KFSN) -- New information about the two people killed in a hit-and-run accident in Calwa early Monday morning. Officers identified the two victims as 53-year-old Nadine Sepulveda and 58-year-old Ricardo Rodriguez.

A small memorial was set up for the two victims, but until that driver is found, family says, the skid marks and blood stain on the road will be etched in their minds.

"I'm sure that car was coming pretty fast, you can tell by the length of those skids," said Enrique Rodriguez, the victim's brother. "I mean, I wish they would have stopped. It's pretty awful you hit somebody-- killed two people and run from it."

Enrique's wound is still fresh where his brother's blood stained the street.

"The family wants justice, they want to find out who did this," Enrique said.

Highway patrol officers said Rodriguez and Sepulveda were crossing Church Street early Monday morning. Family members said the two were dating and lived nearby. He was pushing a bicycle-- she had a shopping cart. A car hit them both and drove on.

"We are suspecting major damage to the front of that white Honda. Pretty obviously they struck someone," said Axel Reyes, CHP officer.

The driver fled the scene but not before leaving some evidence, a bumper, behind. Officers said the car was most likely a 1998 to 2000 white Honda Accord.

"They could have at least called 911 or something. Just to hit them and keep going," said Jessie Vasquez, victim's sister.

Tuesday night both families came together for a candlelight vigil.

Friends said the two may have been homeless for a period of time but they had a big place in people's hearts.

"It's going to be a lot quieter-- she was always the one who made you laugh," said Vasquez.

"I just hope they catch the person-- because it's wrong. It's really wrong," said Paula Grove, friend of victim.

Officers said they have received reports on an increase of racing in the area. They are not sure if it was the case in this accident.
