A domestic violence suspect died Monday night when he was shot by police after allegedly stabbing his own wife, the Selma Police Department said.

The shooting happened near Huntsman Avenue and Gaynor Street in Selma around 7 p.m. Authorities say they received reports of a woman outside her home covered in blood.

Detectives say she had been stabbed several times by her husband, and officers found the suspect on the roof of a home - still armed with the knife.

An officer climbed the roof and discovered the suspect was harming himself with the knife. According to police, when the suspect approached the officer and began threatening him, the officer tased him.

Police say when the suspect got back up after being tased, officers on the ground fired, killing him.

The woman was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
