Central football player motivated to play in college

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For the best outgoing seniors it's one last opportunity to suit up for their high school in the City-County All Star Football Game.

"Really, like, emotional, but not really at the same time. I'm actually happy because I want to go play college ball," said Sam Satele, County Defensive Lineman.

After great career at Central High Satele will do just that playing at Fresno City this fall.

"He's just a special kid. I think he would be a Division-1 college football player if he was just a little bit bigger. I think the knock on him, he's just a little undersized," said Matt Armstrong, County Head Coach.

"I like to keep myself as the underdog. So I always put someone to where I have to work to be better than them," said Satele.

A work ethic that developed right at home.

"We moved around a lot-- some places we couldn't afford at times. My parents were iffy on money, but we've been making it through. I always promised them whatever the outcome I would repay them for everything they've done for me," said Satele.

"Family-- I know he has high expectations for him and I think he just wants to surpass the expectations," said Mathew Mendoza, County Linebacker.

Standing at 6-feet, 259 pounds, he may be a bit undersized for the D-1 level right now, but don't be surprised to see Satele playing at a four year school sooner rather than later.

"I like playing defensive line because I like the idea of getting to the quarterback and making big plays, tackles for losses," said Satele.

"He's so big, I call him a Grizzly. He makes it easier on my job so I can make an open lane tackle," said Mendoza.

"He's just so explosive. He gets off the snap of the football, very quickly. I think his body is still growing too so I think he'll be the size needed, and like I said he's just un-blockable," said Armstrong.

Bad news for quarterbacks and offenses that have face Satele in the future.
