Businesses along the Kings River in Tulare County getting ready for a busy weekend

TULARE COUNTY (KFSN) -- It's the moment campers, boaters, and the folks at Lindy's Landing have been waiting for. Friday the Tulare County Sheriff's Office opened up a 20 mile portion of the Kings River.

Andy Lopez said when he and his kids heard the news they loaded up their jet ski and headed out.

"We were kinda wondering when they were going to open it back up-- so we had to actually go to Shaver Lake last week, so now it's open."

Back in March, Tulare County shut down its stretch of the river because of the snowmelt and fast moving water. Because of that the Army Corps of Engineers was forced to release water from Pine Flat Dam which increased the flows into the Kings River.

Gary Knott, from Southern California, said for weeks that stopped his family from traveling up to their favorite spot.

"We just kept checking in and calling here finding out when it was going to open, what the status was."

When they got the all clear the Knott family wasted no time setting up their campsite for some summer fun.

But it's not all good news for Lindy's Landing-- the owner said because of the flooding and closure of the river; this may be their last season.

"I don't even want to tell you how much money I've," said Gary Lange, Lindy's Landing owner. "Another year of this for sure we're going to be flat broken-- so I gotta decide after December."

Until then they are going to continue to work hard to recover as much as they can from the three months of being closed.
