Light-House Recovery Program seeks community help to keep program alive

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The future of a Fresno program that helps women is in jeopardy.

The Light-House Recovery Program helps women struggling with drug and alcohol abuse. Right now, it's housed in a historic home in Downtown Fresno.

It's been operating from there for the past four years, but the owner of the house is terminally ill and the executor of her estate is liquidating her assets.

"Not only do they live here, counseling services, education and admin office tasks," founder and director Nikki Luna explained. "So we need this zoning."

"And it's located right around the block from where we train our ladies for work experience. Because as you know, we require them all to be employed before the grad from our program."

The program's founder says they have to pay $350,000 to buy the house in less than 30 days or move out. The owners offered to sell the property to the Light-House program, but the nonprofit did not qualify for the loan.

The Light-House has set up an online fundraising page. So far, it's raised close to $17,000.
