Valley heat wave means business is booming for local mister business

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- On a hot day, misters are alluring and for employees at Custom Fog Designs, staying cool is their business and these days they are busy installing new lines.

"This year has been crazy, non-stop from May on. As soon as we had that hot weather hit, it's been non-stop. I've had to hire more guys to keep up with the work," said Allyn Cooke, Custom Fog Design.

Cooke is owner of Custom Fog Designs which manufactures and installs high pressure misting systems.

Cooke said business is up 10 to 15-percent, as they install their fog systems at businesses, residential homes, and restaurants like Vino Grille and Spirits. Owner Chuck Van Fleet said it is more than a necessity for his business.

"With the Fresno heat you've got to have something that's going to cool the air down. If you want people to sit out here longer, you need to have it nice and cool, something people want to relax and feel comfortable."

Van Fleet said the more people can relax and feel cool, the more they spend eating and drinking.

Custom Fog Designs said the misters are so cool; they can cool down a space 15 to 20 degrees. Cooke said each degree can make a difference when it comes to outdoor space.

Meanwhile at Fresno Ag and Hardware, sales are hot.

"When it's hot, business booms for us. People flock to us when temperatures soar," said Ian Williams, Fresno Ag and Hardware Store Manager.

Managers said people have been coming in to buy fans, misting kits, portable air conditioning units, and even ice cream makers. Investments many say are worth it to stay cool and comfortable.
