LATINO LIFE: Giant Balloons Released in Mexico
Festival in Oaxaca Has Eyes To The Skies

Hundreds of people gathered in the Mexican town of Etla this month to watch giant paper balloons being released into the sky.

The event is part of the "Guelaguetza" festival in the state of Oaxaca. The word guelaguetza hails from the Zapotec Indian language and means an offering or gift.

Participants from all over the country spend as long as four months constructing the colorful balloons. The festival is decades-old.

The diverse communities meet up to celebrate Oaxaca's distinct cultures and traditions.
