Tedford talks expectations, QB situation ahead of fall camp
Jeff Tedford addresses media ahead of fall camp

FRESNO, Calif,. (KFSN) -- For Bulldogs head coach Jeff Tedford, it's simple.

"We have one goal and that's to win the Mountain West championship and our bowl game," said Tedford.

The 'Dogs first year head coach laid it out on the table on the eve of his first fall camp with Fresno State. Coming off a 1-11 season, the expectation is to rebound in 2017.

"Obviously you probably all saw we are picked 6th in our division and that's fine with us, said Tedford. "That's where we deserve to be until we prove people wrong."

The first chance to prove the people wrong comes on September 2nd the home opener against Incarnate Word. As for who will be the starting quarterback, Chason Virgil begins fall camp as the starter over Jorge Reyna and others but the competition is far from closed.

"It's a situation where they have to perform each and everyday and as we get closer to game time the permanent starter will be announced at that point," said Tedford.

One thing that's for certain, Fresno State will retire Derek Carr's #4 jersey in a ceremony during halftime of the season opener.

"To have Derek to come back here before our opener to talk to the team, I'm sure our guys are going to be really fired up to have that opportunity to have him speak. I'm sure he will take it one step further with this team to let our guys know what it takes to get to that level," said Tedford.
