FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- At the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, our cameras were there to film a unique procedure Saturday.

Lioness Kiki, 13, was scheduled to undergo dental work. Zookeepers said Kiki broke her upper canine a few months ago. But because she was pregnant with cubs, the zoo decided to hold off on the procedure until she gave birth.

Initially, it was only one tooth that was broken, but Kiki would eventually break a second. She was put under while specialists performed dental work.

"So when we have such complicated dental procedures like this, we need special equipment that we don't have here. So, we call around to different organizations and the Peter Emily Foundation was gracious enough to provide the service today," Nicole Presley with the zoo said.

Kiki is reportedly doing well after the procedure and zookeepers were relieved they didn't have to extract her teeth.

A bear at the zoo also underwent the same dental work today.
