New DIY garage sets up shop in Clovis
One of the owners of The Garage DIY Auto Repair, located off Sunnyside and Herndon, says they wanted to offer an auto body shop with a twist.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- The DIY craze has just inspired a new auto repair shop. The lift at The Garage is up, and mechanics are working on vehicles, but there's plenty of room for their newest DIY customers.

"What's different about our shop is that we allow you to do it yourself," co-owner Brad Marsoobian said. "So if you want to come in do an oil change, brakes, transmission work, whatever you want to do, you can bring your own vehicle and you can use one of our lifts and a set of tools and do the oil work yourself."

Marsoobian is one of the owners of The Garage located off Sunnyside and Herndon. He says they wanted to offer an auto body shop with a twist.

"People are Youtubing how to fix their cars and do things and so they do that and they come in and get it done," he explained.

Gearheads can come in and pay $29.99 an hour to use the tools and equipment. They also charge $59.99 if you need a little help.

"We also have a second-tier where if you need a little bit of guidance and some help you can have one of our mechanics help you through your process and guide you through whatever you want to do to your vehicle," Marsoobian said.

They've extended their hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are open weekends to allow people to tinker away. If you don't want to do it yourself, you can always use their traditional repair service and have the experts take care of your car.

So far, The Garage has had a handful of DIY mechanics use the space and they're looking forward to seeing people learn.

"We want to be able to teach and happy but learn and get excited about doing things on their own so that they know when they're out on the road they feel comfortable and safe," Marsoobian said.

In the future, The Garage says they plan to expand their business by offering basic auto repair classes so people can learn how to change their oil and more.
