Friends and family come together for funeral for Lucy Xiong in East Central Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Loved ones gathered Tuesday to remember the life of a 20-year-old woman who drowned in a Central Fresno canal.

A traditional Hmong funeral service is being held for Lucy in East Central Fresno. Family and friends sent her off to the afterlife with money, presents, and gifts.

Fresno Police recovered the body of Lucy in the water two weeks ago-- eight days after she disappeared. Detectives said it appears she accidentally slipped and drowned.

Despite the tragedy Lucy's family had to face, they are grateful for the community's support.

Lucy's aunt, Mai Lor Xiong, said, "Just today, there's no words to put together. But we're holding together and we hope that everybody can come out and share this moment with us, and help us celebrate Lucy's life".

Lucy's funeral service will continue Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
