Latino Life: Latino Donors Boosting Communities

Latino Community Foundation has developed the largest network of Latino donors in the country. It's called Latino Giving Circle Network and is made up of 420 members. The local chapter is called Central Valley Latino Giving Circle.
With 80 members it has given out its first round of grants totaling $115,000 to local and regional Latino-led nonprofits from Modesto to Bakersfield. Each member of the circle donates $1,000 annually. Dora Westerlund is the founder of the Latino Community Foundation Central Valley Latino Giving Circle.
She and fellow member Maria Lemus sat down with Latino Life host Graciela Moreno to discuss the purpose of the giving circles and the potential impact on Latinos. Latino Community Foundation has a mission of building a movement of civically engaged philanthropic leaders, investing in Latino-led organizations, and increasing political participation of Latinos in California.
Latino Community Foundation is hosting a Community Conversation speaker series event in Fresno,"Unleashing Latino Potential: Solutions for Success in Higher Education."
The goal is to feature regional solutions that empower and support Latino youth to thrive academically and prepare them for 21st-century jobs. Among the speakers are Dr. Joseph Castro, President of Fresno State and recent grant recipients from the Central Valley Latino Giving Circle.
