"As far as him taking the first snap or the first snap of this game, he will be in there," coach Jeff Tedford said of Chason Virgil.

Tedford spoke for the first time Monday since announcing that red shirt sophomore Chason Virgil will be the starting quarterback for Saturday's home opener.

"I think Chanson's knowledge and consistency through camp, his experience here gave him the nod," Tedford said. "He hasn't done anything not to deserve that. But it's been very, very competitive. We are in a good position to have three really good quarterbacks."

The Bulldogs host Incarnate Word on Saturday, an FCS school from San Antonio, Texas that finished with a 3-8 record last season.

"It's not so much about them. Are they going to do exactly what we saw on tape last year, maybe, maybe not?" Tedford said. "Game time is the fun time to cut it loose and want to bring some energy."
