FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police arrest a man who, they say, kept his girlfriend captive armed with a shotgun.

It happened at an apartment complex on Florence and Lee avenues in Southwest Fresno.

Police say 26-year-old Luis Julian Cuenca Sanchez held his girlfriend and her seven-year-old child at gunpoint on Monday. They were able to escape and police say Sanchez tried to run away but was caught.

Police say they found a 12-gauge shotgun and several rounds of ammunition. Sanchez admitted to assaulting and threatening to shoot his girlfriend in front of the child.

He was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
