Investigation reveals possible embezzlement, voter fraud at Raisin City School

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An emergency audit by state investigators uncovered possible embezzlement, voter fraud, and more trouble at a Valley school district.

Parents in Raisin City complained of rigged elections and intimidation by administrators last year. The fiscal crisis and management assistance team looked into a lot of financial irregularities at the school district between 2013 and 2016.

They found questionable expenses like pest control services for a former superintendent's personal home, payments for meals and community events unrelated to school business and unsubstantiated payments for travel.

It found 90 percent of the district's transactions didn't have proper documentation. Also, the district may have had an issue with nepotism - giving business and jobs to family members.

The new superintendent tells us the district hasn't taken action against any employees. But it has made significant policy changes and submitted a response to the investigation the county office of education.
