CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- A three-month long criminal investigation ended with an arrest in a Clovis neighborhood. Detectives took Donald Mayhew into custody -- charging him with four felony crimes.

"The victim, in this case, was the victim of a number of different sexual assaults, and suspect possibly used some sort of drugs," said Sergeant Jim Koch.

Clovis police revealed few details --but say the victim is an adult female who knew Mayhew. Officers say she was drugged, and then raped multiple times while unconscious. Neighbors are in disbelief.

"It just totally shocked me. I mean unbelievable somebody would do something like that," said Pratima Spencer, neighbor.

Mayhew was a longtime reporter with the Fresno bee and moved on to teach English at Bullard High school. None of the crimes involve the students or the school, but Fresno Unified has put him on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

"It is unusual to see someone drugged and then victimized," said Koch.

"I hope justice is served, nobody should be put through that," said Spencer.

Detectives say the alleged sexual assaults happened prior to June 2016. Mayhew faces charges including sodomy of an unconscious person and administering drugs in the commission of a felony.
