Fresno County Sheriff uses new technology to inform residents in emergencies
Deputies say many Fresno County families weren't signed up for a notification system when the Silver Fire broke out.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Deputies say many Fresno County families weren't signed up for a notification system when the Silver Fire broke out.

The new system, called Everbridge, allows the department to send emails, texts, and voicemails to affected homes. Deputies can send evacuation information through the message in a matter of seconds. All deputies have to do is draw a circle around the evacuation area.

On Wednesday, only 28 homes were signed up for this service near the Squaw Valley area.

In addition to this service, deputies continue to knock on doors and post on social media.

You can sign up for Everbridge by going to the Fresno County Sheriff's website, or by clicking here.

The fire is 60 percent contained with 58 acres burned.
