Superior Dairy co-owner hit and killed by car

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- When the accident happened around 5:30 Friday night, it was already dark.

Police say the victim was trying to cross Douty Street after she received a call from her neighbor saying someone at the house was having a seizure.

"As she was crossing the street, a motorcycle traveling southbound swerved to avoid striking her," said Hanford Police Lt. James Lutz. "I believe she fell back, maybe lost her balance, and then the following vehicle actually collided with the victim."

Susan Wing was the victim of the accident, and she was on her way to help a neighbor when she was killed.

Mickey Stoddard, a close family friend, says she had that kind of giving and helping spirit.

He says that was also true of her family, and the family business, Superior Dairy Company, perhaps the most popular and beloved restaurant in the South Valley.

Susan, whose grandfather started Superior in 1929, co-owned the Hanford landmark with her stepbrother.

Stoddard says she took care of the books and came to work Monday through Friday.

"She lived every day to its fullest," Stoddard said. "She was always a smile, always a laugh, always looking for a laugh and always giving somebody a reason to laugh. She was just a wonderful lady."

He says the party did not start until Susan showed up.

"If the party already started, she kicked it up a notch. She was good at that."

It has been a sad few days for the Superior Dairy family, and the pain will never go away.

But Stoddard says the show will go on, with Superior continuing to serve huge portions of delicious ice cream, making customers smile like Susan would want.
