Large fire destroys business in Northeast Fresno
The fire burning so hot and heavy even firefighters, at first, had to retreat.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The fire destroyed everything and because of that, it is now making the investigation into what sparked the blaze even more difficult for fire officials.

Fire investigators spent Tuesday morning carefully sifting through rubble and charred debris following a massive fire that destroyed a pair of Northeast Fresno businesses Monday night.

Karen Hobson works just steps away from the commercial complex that was completely destroyed. Neighbors say they spotted heavy smoke around 6:30 at night, near First and Gettysburg.

A non-profit and dental spa were believed to be the two businesses that were lost in the fire but according to eyewitnesses, the damages could have been worse.

"The fire department did an excellent job, they were containing everything. I was fearful for the other buildings in the complex," Hudson said.

Fresno Fire is not revealing much into the investigation, a canine officer was brought in to help with the scene Tuesday but the structure is a total loss.

Kirk Wanless of Fresno Fire said, "Due to the extensive damage to the building, it's completely on the ground as you can see we're probably not going to be able to get any real good information what caused it but we're continuing to investigate and we'll try to figure it out."

Part of the investigation will be to interview nearby business owners
