Gas station confrontation in Caruthers sends 2 to the hospital

CARUTHERS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two people are hospitalized after being shot at the El Toro gas station at Pear and Tahoe in Caruthers just before 7 o'clock Friday evening.

Fresno County Sheriff's deputies say a verbal confrontation broke out between a group of people in one car and two others in another vehicle. Deputies say as the driver of one car was getting gas, two suspects from the other ran up to the car.

Authorities say surveillance video shows the man got back in his car as the two suspects approached both sides of the car, one armed with a shotgun, the other with a pistol.

Both the man and his female passenger were shot.

The driver was shot in the upper head and taken to Community Regional Medical Center. The female was shot in the hands and air-lifted to the hospital. Both are expected to survive.

Authorities are still searching for the group of suspects involved. They're believed to be in a light-colored early 2000's model Honda coupe vehicle.
