Harry Armstrong, long time Clovis City Councilmember, dies at 87
Long-time Clovis City Councilmember and community leader Harry Armstrong has died.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Long-time Clovis City Councilmember and community leader Harry Armstrong has died.

Fresno City Councilman Luis Chavez expressed his condolences on Facebook saying, "Clovis is what it is today because of his tenure on the city council. Longest serving elected official west of the Mississippi."

Armstrong was first elected to the Clovis City Council in 1970, serving a total of 46 years. During his 12 terms as councilman, he led the charge in building Highways 180 and 168.

Armstrong retired from his council seat in October of 2016 and was having health problems at the time. He battled with illness stemming from pneumonia for the past four years.

Harry Armstrong was 87-years-old.
