Investigation underway after raw meat is delivered using shopping carts in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KFSN) -- The pictures have been shared by thousands, giant slabs of raw, unwrapped meat being hauled into a San Jose Market in Costco shopping carts.

Now authorities are investigating the unsanitary delivery to 99 Ranch in San Jose after receiving several complaints.

The Santa Clara Department of Environmental Health is looking into the shipment after San Jose resident, Loretta Seto posted the widely seen images on Facebook.

We reached out to Seto who says she didn't think the pictures would go viral, and originally posted it to a group to quote, "warn them about the potential dangers of those Costco carts to children, which turned into a meat investigation."

She goes on to say that she hopes quote, "I hope people who shop at 99 Ranch have safe meat to consume, and people who shop at Costco will have clean carts for their children to sit in."

The meat came from a Winton based company called Jim's Farm Meat. Employees declined to comment, however, the employees seen pushing the meat-filled carts were fired.

The United States Department of Agriculture also responded to the incident, telling us that the department is quote, "committed to protecting public health by ensuring the safety of the nation's meat supply." They also say that the agency is quote," working with local authorities and will determine further actions as information becomes available."
